Bethlehem Qasr El Yahud & Dead Sea Tour from Jerusalem ITINERARY
Pickup from your Jerusalem main pickup location and you start your way to the castle of the Jews or Qasr el Yahud is on the River Jordan not far from Jericho. The baptismal site on the banks of the Jordan River, Qasr al-Yahud, is the site where according to tradition, Jesus was baptized. It is the western part of the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13-17), a name which was historically used for the pilgrimage site on both sides of the river. The very same place is also a well known location where the Israelites crossed the river Jordan into the promised land and where the prophet Elijah ascended to Heaven. An opportunity to be baptized is available.
Next, proceed to Bethlehem. Bethlehem, the place where Jesus Christ was born. Our journey takes us to Manger Square which is surrounded by the Mosque of Omar, the Palestinian Peace center the Church of Nativity of which some may recognize as the oldest functioning church in the world. The Church of Nativity was built in the 4th century and was extended during the 6th century. Some of the original mosaic floorings exist today. Entering the Basilica of the Nativity we go creep through a low doorway called the “Door of Humility”. On the walls, we can see golden mosaics with 30 of the 44 pink limestone columns of the nave of the church which were embellished with decorations by the Crusaders. Below the church, there is a grotto that has an engraving in Latin stating “Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary.” You will also find in the church a chapel of the manger and the altar of the Adoration of the Magi. (The three Wise men). Leaving the church past the Armenian Chapel of the Kings we proceed towards the Church of St Catherine and enter the Church of Nativity. Here, inside and down below are grottoes(caves), where we will observe several tombs and chapels in dedication to the babies killed under Herod. (Mathew. 2:16)
To end off a perfect day the tour takes you to the Dead Sea, where we take a trip to one of the best Dead Sea beaches to relax and float in its high saline waters, or give yourself a mud bath by covering your body with the Dead Sea’s black mineral-rich mud, giving yourself a natural health and beauty treatment. Here you can float in the water that is 8.5 times saltier than the ocean; lather your skin with mineral-rich Dead Sea mud and soak up the sun on the beach. Return transfer to pick up point.
