Jerusalem Old City Tour from Herzliya ITINERARY

Spend a full day exploring an iconic and holiest city in the world, Old City of Jerusalem.

See Jerusalem’s skyline from the top of Mt. Scopus. From afar, we spot the Old City and Temple Mount, where the golden dome of the Dome of the Rock stands out as a stunning photo opportunity. Down below, a 3,000-year-old Jewish cemetery catches our eye.

As we continue on, we pass by the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations, and the Kidron Valley, which is home to ancient Jewish tombs.

Continue into the Old City through the Zion Gate to Jerusalem’s Cardo, the main thoroughfare of Byzantine Jerusalem. In the Jewish Quarter, visit the Western Wall, or Wailing Wall, the holiest of Jewish sites. Here, you have an opportunity to leave a prayer note between the ancient stones of the Wailing Wall.

Further along in the Christian Quarter, walk along the Via Dolorosa, the street that Jesus traveled on the way to his crucifixion. The Via Dolorosa, meaning “Way of Sorrow” in Latin, is one of the most significant religious sites in Jerusalem.

The path that Jesus Christ walked carrying his cross on the way to his crucifixion. The route winds through the narrow streets of the Old City, passing through various stations of the cross, each marking a significant event in Jesus’ final journey. The stations include the place where Jesus met his mother, where he stumbled and fell, and where Simon of Cyrene helped him carry the cross.

The final stations of the Via Dolorosa lead to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where Jesus was crucified and buried. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, is one of the most significant religious sites in the world. The location where Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and resurrected.

The church is built on the site known as Golgotha or Calvary, where Jesus was crucified. Inside the church, there is a large stone,  the site of the tomb where Jesus was buried. The church also houses other important religious sites, including the Chapel of St. Helena, where it is believed that the True Cross was found, and the Chapel of Adam, where Adam is believed to have been buried.

At the entrance of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, there is a large stone called the Stone of Anointing or the Stone of Unction. The spot where the body of Jesus was prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, according to the New Testament. The stone is anointed with fragrant oil by the faithful who visit the church, and it is also a popular site for pilgrims to pause and reflect on the solemnity of the events that took place at the church.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites, and its significance cannot be overstated. It is a place where they can come to connect with their faith, reflect on the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and gain a deeper understanding of the history of their religion. Even for non-Christians, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre remains a fascinating and awe-inspiring monument, rich in history and cultural significance.

Afterward, enter the beautiful Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations, and see the Kidron Valley, where centuries-old monumental Jewish tombs stand. We pass by the Dormition Church on Mount Zion and visit the Room of the Last Supper and King David’s Tomb.

Monday / Thursday  – After a morning of exploring some of Jerusalem’s most iconic religious and historical sites, the tour pauses for a lunch break before heading to new Jerusalem, passing through the modern city before arriving at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. This powerful museum offers a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust, with a vast collection of authentic artifacts, original documents, photographs, and video testimonials from survivors.

After a moving and informative visit to the museum, the tour concludes with a transfer back to the pickup point and a return to the hotel. This comprehensive tour offers a unique perspective on the rich history and culture of Jerusalem, from ancient religious sites to modern-day landmarks.

*On Mondays and Thursdays (except during Jewish holidays), the tour includes a visit to the Holocaust Museum instead of the Church of All Nations at the Garden of Gethsemane, King David’s Tomb, and the Hall of the Last Supper on Mount Zion.

Wonderful day with Avi

★★★★★
“ Avi was absolutely wonderful!! We had such a great day with him visiting Masada, Ein Gedi, and the Dead Sea. He was kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable, and he made the whole experience feel easy, interesting, and fun. He adapted perfectly to our family and kept our two kids engaged, even in the heat. He always knew where to stop, where to find shade, and how to share the history in a way that was fascinating but never too heavy. His car was also very comfortable, which made the long drive to and from Tel Aviv so much easier. It was a long, hot day, but it went by so fast because we were having such a good time. We would absolutely book Avi again and are already looking forward to more adventures with him!”

Amazing experience!

★★★★★
“ I had an amazing experience at the Dead Sea and Masada tour, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Enrique. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much fascinating history throughout the entire trip you could tell he genuinely loves what he does and knows the subject inside and out. Enrique was extremely kind, welcoming, and friendly from start to finish. He made everyone feel comfortable and taken care of, and his hospitality really stood out. The whole experience felt organized, fun, and personal because of him. If you’re thinking about doing a Dead Sea and Masada tour, I highly recommend it and if you get Enrique as your guide, you’re in great hands.”
